Allie's world is falling apart...

She hates her school. Her brother has run away. She's just been arrested. Again. And now her parents are sending her away.

But instead of hating boarding school, Allie is happy. She's making friends. And there's Carter, a brooding loner with whom she feels an instant connection.

Cimmeria Academy is no ordinary school. Her classmates - and maybe some of the teachers - are hiding a secret. And soon it begins to feel like a very dangerous place.

Yes, I get it, I am very late to this. I remember getting this for review back when it was published and then giving it to the charity shop because it didn't look like my kind of thing. Something was quite obviously wrong with my brain because this is definitely my kind of thing. Honestly, people, this book is on the same level of awesome as The Mortal Instruments and you know how obsessed I am with that.

Why I didn't read this sooner, I don't know, but waiting for each book to come out would have been excruciating so perhaps it's better that I didn't. Because this, my friends, is one of the most incredible, exciting books I have ever read. Immediately after finishing this book I ordered the other books in the series and, let me tell you, I wouldn't usually do that because I'm so poor you might as well call me a peasant (don't). It's just... AHH. Basically.

I'm not going to tell you about the plot because it's right up there, and the less you know about it, the better your final reading experience will be. So, can we talk about Carter West, the main love interest? As if I needed yet another book boyfriend to add to my list. Why isn't he real? *flips table*

I just wish I could read this book for the first time all over again. This took me about eight hours to read with no breaks - yes, it was that good - and I didn't get bored once. None of it was slow, none of it dragged, and I was 100% immersed in the story from start to finish. Also, bonus point for the inclusion of panic attacks, as always.

Finally, if you haven't read this book, PLEASE DO. The tension, the suspense, the mystery, the twists... it's incredible, and with one of the best YA romances to boot, it's not one you'll want to miss. My rating system only goes up to five stars, but if I could I'd give it all the stars in the sky.
