The Mile Long Bookshelf is 5 Years Old!

Five years ago today, I sat in front of a massive computer which no longer exists, at a desk which no longer exists, to create a blog which does still exist, and which somehow survived through everything life has thrown at me in the last five years.

Today marks five years since I started this little blog. Time has crept up on me; usually I plan my blogoversaries months in advance, but this year I wanted to go back to the good ole' days and have a really chilled, low-key little celebration.

It seems like only yesterday my blog looked like this:

I'm not going to re-cap the year or anything because I'm doing that in a separate post towards the end of the month to mark the end of 2014, but I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank you all. Whether you've been here right from the start or if you only started reading my blog yesterday, you have contributed to making this a great year. I appreciate each and every one of you and, even after five years, it still hasn't sunk in that people actually take the time to read what I write.

Sometimes I wonder why I, a random sixteen year-old in a small corner of England, whose opinion has no more value than anyone else's, am allowed to have this space on the Internet which I can do whatever I like with. I don't think I deserve it, but I'm very lucky, and I'll do all I can to keep this little blog going for many more years to come.

I'll never be able to properly thank you all for sticking around, but I can do something for you, and that thing is an international giveaway. You can win any book of your choice up to the value of £10 from The Book Depository, as long as it provides free shipping to your country. You can check to see if your country is eligible for free shipping by clicking here. Good luck!

Thanks for sticking around!

  1. Congratulations on five years :) I came across your Blog around 3 weeks ago, it was the first Book Blog I have ever seen and I automatically begun to love it. I only started my Blog around 3 weeks ago after reading yours. Your posts are so entertaining and I check back nearly everyday for posts. Good look on your (hopefully) next five years :)

  2. CONGRATULATIONS AMBER! 5 years is absolutely wonderful! I'm only coming up to my first blogoversary and it feels as though I've been blogging for much longer. I absolutely adore your blog! One of my favourite posts of yours this year has been the one where you shared signs to recognise if you follow too many bookstagram accounts. :) Thank you so much for the giveaway opportunity - and here's to another wonderful year of blogging. <3

  6. Congratulations on 5 years! :D That's such a huge achievement.

I always think it's amazing to see how much our blogs have "been through". Like, my blog has been with me all through school, through WANTING to get married, through actually getting married, through quitting my job, through starting my business, etc.

It's just incredible to think you have this one constant in your life that's "seen it all". :)

  7. I know that the most exciting was when we Twitter bombed that fraud Author DJ, or what ever his name was, who was selling blogger email addresses. Which reminds me, I need to check up on him. Lol. I cannot believe you have been blogging since you were eleven! You are a wonderful asset to the blogging community worldwide, and don't you ever forget that! Congratulations on FIVE YEARS of sharing your opinions and ideas with us. Thank-you for this marvelous giveaway, too. :)

  9. Well done on 5 years, that's almost the whole of secondary school!! :)
I discovered your blog on a rainy day during the Easter holidays and have been following you ever since! Your blog was the first one I ever and read and you were the first booktuber I subscribed to - if it weren't for you I wouldn't have rediscovered my love of books and got reading back into my life, as well as become obsessed with the book blogosphere and booktube!! :D
So basically I owe quite a lot to you and am so grateful you decided to start The Mile Long Bookshelf on this day 5 years ago!
Here's to many more amazing years of blogging!!! ;)

  10. Happy 5th Blogoversary! Not sure about a favorite post. I do enjoy reading your discussion posts, although I don't always agree completely with them. But your reasons that you give for your opinions always make sense!

  18. Happy fifth blogoversary, Amber! I think it's incredible that you started this blog so young and still stuck with it. Goodness knows how many blogs I went through between the ages of 13 and 18. I hopped from one blog to the next and purged them all, afraid of reading whatever silly things I had written. Haha. On the other hand, sticking to one blog is a cool way to see how much you've grown over the years :)
