DISCUSSION: Am I obsessed with The Mortal Instruments?

A couple of weeks ago I ordered The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare which consists of City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels and City of Lost Souls; the last book will be published next year.

It may have only been two weeks but I think I might be obsessed. When I'm busy doing homework, blogging or running errands, I'm daydreaming about the time when I can pick up one of the books and dive into the world of Shadowhunters again. I find myself thinking about Clary, Jace, Simon and the others as if they're actually real and if something goes wrong in the books I genuinely feel distraught. Adding to that, my birthday is coming up at the end of October and my wish list is full of The Mortal Instruments merch and barely anything else. Luckily, I'm not alone in this. I know a lot of people feel the same way about the Divergent series and it's guaranteed that people felt the same about the Harry Potter series and the Twilight saga.

The other day I stayed up all night to read City of Ashes and missed a full night's sleep. The series is like a drug, I can't get enough of it! I'm worried about finishing City of Lost Souls because I know I'll have to wait for nearly a year to read the final book.

If that's not obsessed, I don't know what is. Are you obsessed with any books?

*This post is scheduled. By the time this post is published I probably will have finished the series. HOW SAD. DO YOU SEE MY TEARS?
**I was right. I just finished the series. OH MY GOD.

  1. I think you are obsessed. I think I might have mentioned before now that I'm obsessed with Harry Potter and you're in a similar mindset. The majority of my life revolves around Harry Potter, I'm friends with some of my friends because of it, I went to London and the Studio Tour because of it, it is the first thing I think about when I wake up. I really think you are. x

  2. I had the same experience with The Mortal Instruments last year. You have Infernal Devices after COLS so don't worry about finishing it. :) x

  3. I don't think I've ever been obsessed with a book, but my sister read these recently and she got a little obsessed too. She asked me the other day of I'd read them yet and when I said no (I haven't had time to yet!) she was saying YOU HAVE TO READ THEM NOW! I wish I could because I don't think I know anyone who hasn't enjoyed them, but I have review books and a couple of library copies that I need to read first, so I may have to wait a while. I might put them off completely until the last book comes out and I can just read the entire series all in one go!

  4. Welcome to the world of book-obsessions, Amber! Your parents probably had obsessions with pop-stars in their teenage years - mine had obsessions with a TV show called Charmed(which is amazing) and planes. Am I obsessed with anything...? I don't think so. No, NOTHING at all. *Hides under table* *Plans her escape route* *Remembers to pack her Hunger Games book and Merchandise*

  5. I used to be mega into the Twilight saga but then I discovered the rest of the YA genre and now I'm obsessed with that as a whole haha!
It's amazing though that you love the series so much, maybe one day you'll bump into a real life Shadowhunter in a night club....just saying ;)
