Feature and Follow Friday #14

I am this week's featured blogger! For those of you that haven't been here before, hello! I'm Amber and I'm 14 years old with a passion for books. I've been blogging for half of my life, do I get some kind of medal for that?..
The Feature and Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee and Alison of Alison Can Read.
Q: How do you handle a book you don't like? Do you DNF or do you power through?
I never do DNF reviews because I don't feel like I can give a fair review of a book I haven't even finished. Most of the time I will power through and read the whole thing even if I hate it because I know that publishers and authors take time out of their day to send me their prized books to review.

You can follow me via the GFC widget on the sidebar, Bloglovin', Twitter or Facebook. Or all of them, whatever floats your boat! And don't forget to check out my interview on either Parajunkee or Alison Can Read. :)

I have a difficult time to DNF, too.

  3. Woo hoo congrats on the feature Amber! I also hate to DNF review books - you know how hard authors have worked & I always hope that a book gets better if I can power through

  6. Congratulations on being featured! How great that you found a love for books and blogging so young - I've always known I love books, but the blogging is a recent discovery!

For me, I just don't have time to power through a book I don't like. There's way too many books on my TBR to waste time with a book I'm not enjoying even a little bit.

You have a good point actually. My TBR is massive so maybe it would be more sensible to do what you do. I'll have to have a think about that. :)

    1. Haha I'm the opposite! I always power through if it's a book I bought or if a publisher sent it to me but if a normal person gave me the book then I struggle to finish it if I don't like it.

Thank you for following my blog!

  10. I normally don't do DNF reviews either, I will simply mark it DNF on Goodreads and/or send a quick explanation to the Publisher (the only ones I ever do this to even are NetGalley ARCS). I don't like to DNF at all, but sometimes I just can't take it! :) Following on Bloglovin, Facebook, Twitter and GFC.

    1. Yes, it's a good idea to let whoever sent it to you know. I don't do that but I really need to get into the habit (because there are books I don't finish, I just don't review them necessarily). Thanks for following me!

  17. I always finish books given to me by authors to review, so I don't write DNF reviews. Other books that I don't finish don't get any review or rating because (most of the time) I plan to go back and read them through to the end.

  19. Congrats on being the featured blogger, Amber! I have exactly the same view as you. I always power through a book until the end even though I may dislike it. Sometimes, I'm glad I do as it surprises me! Also, I can't just leave a book as it frustrates me to leave something unfinished.

  27. Congrats on being featured! I'm an old Bloglovin' follower. I will not review a DNF book on my blog unless I really feel I need to tell people about it. And with a review book I've requested, I've only once DNF. And I can't imagine ever doing that again.

  35. We have similar takes on finishing books that have been given to us for review. A lot of work goes into writing, least I can do is read the whole book to give it a full review even when I don't like it.

I really gave your answer some thought as my one star crown rating has DNF and I think I'm going to rename that, because as you said, I shouldn't rate it DNF because it's conclusion maybe what raises the book by several ratings!

  44. Congrats on your feature! I'm just now experiencing a possible DNF. I'm 75% of the way through but haven't picked it up for over a month and am not sure I can make it to the end. I'm going to since I might as well even if I have to skim. I can't decide whether to review or not because even though I will read any review and appreciate them all whether negative or positive, I know how much work goes into writing and publishing a book. Sometimes negative reviews draw me to read a book, so they won't necessarily put off a potential reader.
