Design Timeline: 2009-2013

As some of you may already know, I started blogging when I was 7. Meaning I have been blogging for half of my life. My original blog was called Let's Call It a Journey and I stopped blogging there when I started blogging here in 2009. It was still public up until a couple of months ago, when I made it private because...well, it was embarrassing!

So today, I thought I would take you through a design timeline of this blog. Looking back, I really wasn't very good at blog designing! Or writing blog posts. My first review basically consisted of 'I liked this book. It made me happy. You should buy it.' (I'm exaggerating, obviously, but it was something along those lines!)

Sadly I don't have any screen shots of my blog from 2009, but I do have the background and the header I used.

I think you'll agree when I say it looked boring and cramped! Luckily, I eventually grew out of that style...

Hmm. The header was alright. I guess. These were back in 2011. The next and final major change in blog design was just a few months ago, when I finally got bored of the design above! This next change was the biggest and the best, if I do say so myself.

It's strange looking at my old blog designs, because you can really tell that my styles were changing and I was getting older. I'm glad to say that I'm completely happy with my blog design nowadays and I doubt I'll be changing it for a while.
What do you guys think?

  1. I really loved your header in the middle. Your current one is gorgeous too. Really good idea! My blog used to look awful when I first started! I cringe whenever I think about it now!

    1. It was just too pink and I grew out of it eventually. I know my current design is kind of pink but at least it's not completely pink. I'm going to search for your early posts now!;)

  4. I remember Let's Call it a Journey - it was one of my favourite blogs! My first blog was really embarrassing to me too, haha! ;P

You've always had really cute designs on this blog! ^.^

  5. That quote on your first design always confuses me!... We have it at school basically. Your designs are all really unique, throughout the years! Mine's just... blob. In fact, should I call it blob? Oh, and... You know your bee? Does it have a name?!
Another quick question- how did you get that banner that's above which see 'if you think... to vote!' I think it'd be a good idea for me to pop one up which is similar (: Anyway, this is a fabulous & unique post (really, first of its kind I've seen!)

    1. I know I understood the quote when I put it on the header, but it confuses me nowadays haha. My bee is called Kevin! He's very cheerful with his pink flower. xD

      Thank you Amy! :)

  6. I actually like all three designs. But your current header is the best and totally stunning. Emma is so talented at making graphics that when I saw yours and Lucy's I couldn't help but get one myself. I cringe when reading my old posts and thinking of my old design... what was wrong with me!!! I guess it's just a rather embarrasing reminder of the growth made. It's so cool you've been blogging for 7 years. I've only been blogging for just over one.

    1. Thanks Sunny! I agree, Emma is amazing at what she does.

You've only been blogging for just over a year? You seem really experienced though and you have tons of followers, wow! Well done :)

  7. Aw, posts like this are so cool! It's really interesting to go back through your previous designs - and you're right, you can definitely see how your blog has sort of "grown up" with you along the years.

That first design is so cute, I love it! And that quote has always been a favourite of mine. ;)

I first discovered The Mile Long Bookshelf when you had the second design - the really pretty pink one. I hadn't created Booked Up! yet, and always admired how gorgeous your design was and wished I could be so creative.

Emma did such an amazing job designing your last one. It is truly beautiful and it's brilliant how different images have sort of merged together to make one gorgeous result. :D

Thank you so much for sharing this lovely post with us, Amber! Your blog has always been really remarkable. :)

    1. Aw thank you! Wow, I started my blog before you started yours? I always thought Booked Up! was around since before I started blogging. Thank you for everything you said, it means a lot! You're lovely :D

  8. OH MY GOSH I REMEMBER ALL OF THEM XD Flashback time! I'm getting nostalgic now... xD Your past designs are so much better than mine. Mine are so bad that I don't think I'll ever share them with anyone >.< *shudders*

Your first design is so cute! The second one is pretty too, but your current one is my favourite :) Emma is such a good designer! I'm right at the back of her request queue, so it may take a while. Anyway, thanks for sharing! :)

  9. Wow, I love all your headers! I haven't known about your blog for very long, so I only remember the current one but it's awesome to see what it was like before! The first header is so cute, and I really like the second one but I love your current one! :D My designs haven't changed much at all, but hopefully I'll be able to do a post like this in the future when I've had more headers! :)

  10. I think your first design was really cute and nothing to be embarrassed about. Almost as good as your current design. :)

  12. Hm, actually, I really liked the first header. It was very oriental and simple. I loved the red because it gives the feeling that Chinese New Year has come! The second one is alright, but I still prefer the first to the second!

I had a blog design makeover months ago, maybe you could check it out! :)
